Threat Assessment

Threat assessment is the systematic examination and analysis of information to determine the nature, likelihood, and severity of a potential threat. It is a proactive, preventative process used by law enforcement, security agencies, and other organisations to identify, evaluate, and manage risks.

Threat assessments can involve evaluating individuals, groups, or organisations that may pose a threat to national security, public safety, or critical infrastructure.

They can involve multiple steps, including collecting and analysing information, evaluating the potential risk posed by a particular individual or group, and developing and implementing a plan to manage that risk. The goal of threat assessment is to identify potential threats early, assess the likelihood of the threat becoming a reality, and take appropriate actions to mitigate or prevent the threat from materialising.
